Sad week

Don Henley sang (in "Dirty Laundry"), "It's interesting when people die."  I have to admit to reading the obits regularly.  I'm fascinated by the life stories--a life boiled down to a few paragraphs, or for some, maybe even a few pages.  I find them  "interesting."  But sometimes I find myself actually feeling sad that someone is gone, as if a family member, or a close friend.  There were two of those deaths this week.
Though I had read that Peter Falk's Alzeimers' Disease had progressed to the point that he didn't know his own daughter, still the news of his death saddened me, at the same time I felt a sense of relief for those who loved him.  Columbo was such a great character.  The other role that stands out for me right now was in "Wings of Desire," where he confessed that he, the actor Peter Falk, was an angel who decided to take on human form.  Now he has shed that form.
The other death that saddened me was Nick Charles, former anchor of CNN Sports Tonight, from the pre-internet era when a daily sports wrap-up was actually news.  I always liked him--always upbeat, energetic, and enthusiastic.  Seeing a video tribute to him on CNN.com, I could see that he maintained those qualities in the face of death.  You have to admire that.

Hello

Just wanted to start a blog, so here goes.  I wanted to make the title of the blog as broad as possible, so I can include whatever I want.  I believe "the creator of the universe" encompasses all that is created, but, just to be on the safe side, I have included you, and, of course, me.  We'll see where this takes us.  The aspects of "the creator of the universe" I find most interesting are public affairs, movies and music, sports, and relationships,  I think you and me are included, in some way, in all of these, but the creator of the universe makes them, and all things, possible.  But I should be clear from the start, that this is in no way a religious blog, nor is it intended in any way to mock the creator of the universe, though I won't rule out occasional comments about "religion."  This blog may be considered "religious" in the broadest possible sense: I believe that me and you and the creator of the universe are, in some important way, that I don't claim to understand, one.
